It’s good to have the Lucky Gator Loft
So last week, I went to check out a show at the Lucky Gator Loft — a place I’d been trying to get around to checking out for a while now. It was a great time: the show was full, the bands were great, a touring band was being supported, it was all-ages, laid back, and filled with friends young and old. What was really so great about it was the fact that the mood was awesome.
As someone who’s been doing this band/D.i.Y./underground music scene for a really really long time, and looking at the location of my newest band’s first show, I was excited. Silly as it sounds, I still get a huge thrill out of doing this (why else would I keep at it?). Seeing people who who I went to show with 25 years ago, along side people who weren’t even alive then, all getting into supporting this fucked up music scene was frankly inspiring. I was just proud to be a part of it. And looking forward to the whole thing again. Looking forward to 97-shiki opening for bands who’s members weren’t even alive when I started playing. Looking forward to the touring, and the traveling, and the meeting people, and making new music. I almost had an emo moment, as I felt like grabbing the mic and telling everyone “thanks”.
This Chicago scene rocks, and we’re going to have a GREAT summer and fall. Let’s keep it going people!

Interesting perspective. Wow. And 25 years ago sure as hell doesn’t seem as long ago as it ought to!
